Respiratory Therapist Travel Job - Oregon

Job Details

  • Location: Pendleton, Oregon
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Nights
  • Hours: 36 hours per week (typically 3 shifts of 12 hours)
  • Work Environment: Critical access hospital, mostly inpatient coverage including ER, CCU, and maternity (35 births/month)
  • Patient Population: All ages (neonates, pediatrics, adults)
  • Typical Workload: Variable number of treatments per day depending on patient census
  • Staffing: Short-staffed with 5 RTs on staff; often working alone covering shift holes, FMLA, PTO
  • Call: No call or standby call required
  • Dress Code: Royal blue scrubs
  • Orientation: 3-6 shifts department-specific orientation

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) via NBRC
  • Oregon RRT License (required)
  • ACLS (American Heart Association)
  • BLS (American Heart Association)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) Certificate
  • PALS is preferred but not explicitly required
  • CRT acceptable if all other requirements are met

Required Skills & Experience

  • Experience with ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, and bubble CPAP on newborns
  • Ability to perform arterial blood gases (ABGs), breathing treatments, and EKGs
  • Assist with intubation (independent intubation not required)
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be physically able to walk extensively during shifts (6-8 miles reported)
  • Experience in a critical access hospital or similar setting is beneficial

Equipment Used

  • Draeger ventilators
  • V60 BiPAP machines
  • ResMed CPAP devices
  • Vapotherm high flow oxygen systems

Additional Information

  • The hospital has a hospitalist on site and a 5-bed critical care unit (CCU)
  • Ventilator days average 5-7 per month
  • The role requires responsibility for daily shift checks and billing of procedures performed
  • Weekend and holiday work required to cover shift gaps
