Telemetry Nurse

Overview

• Travel contract for a Telemetry nurse
• Location: Bakersfield, California
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights
• Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
• Unit: 4W Telemetry
• Unit size: 31 beds

Required Qualifications

• 2 full years of experience
• Active California RN license
• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• Must be able to read and interpret all cardiac rhythms

Schedule and Work Expectations

• Weekend requirement: 4 shifts out of every 4-week schedule
• Holidays: expected to work in the perm staff holiday rotation, including 1 major holiday and 1 minor holiday
• Call: must report within 30 minutes if placed on standby/call
• Block scheduling is allowed if unit needs are met, but not guaranteed
• Floor-specific orientation: 1-2 shifts with a preceptor

Float Scope

• Travelers are first to float
• May float between MSW and MHB
• May float to 2W MedSurg remote tele, MedSurg SW, ICU for tele MS hold, or ER holds

Unit Details

• Ratios: 1:4
• Nurse aides: 2 on days and 1 on nights
• Charge nurse support: Shift Manager and a Resource Nurse
• Tele system: Phillips
• Vents: Cpap or Bipap per RT
• Hospitalist or Intensivist in house: yes, on call after hours
• IV Team: no
• RT available 24/7
• Pharmacy available 24/7
• Pharmacy system: Omnicell

Patient Population

• Post pacer
• Hemodialysis
• New onset afib or RVR
• Stepdown from ICU
• Surgical patients
• Urology patients, including cystoscopy
• Oncology patients with cardiac problems needing monitoring
• Rare ortho patients
• Correctional patients
• Strokes
• TBI
• High acuity patients
• Heavy patients
• Patients with bedsores
• About 1/3 of patients are from nursing homes
• PEG tubes
• Sepsis
