Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (ER)

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced ER Registered Nurse to provide care in a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department with 65 all-private beds and 2 trauma bays. The role involves caring for a wide variety of patients ranging from newborns to the elderly, including critically ill patients, strokes, heart attacks, and trauma cases.

Work Environment

• Nurse-to-patient ratios vary from 1:3 to 1:5 depending on acuity and department needs.
• The ED is staffed with a minimum of 3 attending physicians at all times and includes charge nurses and a 24/7 house supervisor.
• ED techs support nursing staff with a ratio of approximately 1:9.
• Respiratory therapists assist with ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen devices; nurses may troubleshoot these devices.
• Telemetry monitors are used, and nurses are expected to interpret cardiac rhythms and act accordingly.
• Radiology staff handle imaging transport; nurses and techs draw labs.

Shifts & Scheduling

• 12-hour shifts available:

  • Day shifts start at 7 AM, 8 AM, or 9 AM
  • Mid shifts start between 10 AM and 3 PM
  • Night shift starts at 7 PM
• Positions are not rotating between day and night shifts.
• Scheduling is managed by the scheduling manager; time-off requests and block scheduling may be accommodated.
• Weekend requirement is every other weekend, with specific days depending on the shift.
• Holiday work is required every other holiday or as needed, negotiable based on contract.
• No call or standby requirements for travelers.
• Floating to other units is rare and limited to “help all” roles, not team leadership.

Required Certifications & Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license or proof of application in process.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
• ENPC or PALS certification.
• TNCC or TNS certification.
• Minimum of 2 years nursing experience preferred.
• At least 1 prior travel nursing assignment required.
• SANE RN experience preferred.
• Experience working in a teaching hospital with residents preferred.

Skills & Responsibilities

• Proficient in general nursing skills and critical care nursing in the ED setting.
• Ability to titrate a wide variety of drips including vasopressors, cardiac drips, and antihypertensive medications.
• Capable of recognizing and responding to life-threatening cardiac rhythms.
• Care for trauma patients after stabilization and transfer from trauma bay.
• Maintain professionalism with appropriate solid-colored scrubs; no specific scrub color required.

• Orientation includes 12 non-billable hours.
