Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Psychiatric Unit

Location: Twin Falls, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7 PM – 7 AM)
Hours per Day: 12
Hours per Week: 36

Unit Overview

• Medical Psychiatric unit with 28 beds (mostly dual occupancy; some single rooms blocked when needed)
• Average daily census: 15-16 patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:7
• Patient population includes adults 18+ who are medically stable and medically cleared prior to admission
• Common diagnoses: suicidal ideation, depression, psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, alcohol and opioid detox (no IVs required)
• Acute and lower acuity patients share common hallways
• Physical restraints are used rarely; verbal de-escalation preferred. Restraints may include chemical, seclusion, 4-point, and hands-on methods.

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Valid RN license in Idaho
• BLS Certification required

Requirements/Qualifications

• Psychiatric nursing experience of at least 1 year, with experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Clinical & Operational Details

• No IV therapy on the unit
• No respiratory therapist on unit; nursing monitors CPAP, supplemental O2 at night, and small volume nebulizers if ordered
• No telemetry or monitor techs on unit; EKGs ordered only for medication initiation or symptomatic patients and read by cardiology
• Charge RN available 24/7, responsible for admissions and staffing decisions
• Psychiatric Technicians provide patient monitoring, support with activities, and assist with restraints as needed
• Floating to nearby hospital may be required for 1:1 staffing if census is low

Scheduling & Orientation

• 12-hour night shifts, 7 PM to 7 AM
• Weekend shifts as needed
• Holiday shifts required if needed
• No call or standby requirements
• No overtime or additional shifts available
• Orientation includes 2 unit-specific shifts plus general orientation (Monday-Wednesday)

Dress Code

• Navy blue scrubs

• Facility enforces a 50-mile radius rule for candidates’ permanent address eligibility
• Patients admitted from ERs statewide and surrounding states
• Unit layout requires awareness of shared hallways and patient acuity levels
