Job Opportunity: Med Tele RN (Registered Nurse)

Location: Iron Mountain, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking a Med Tele RN for a 24-bed inpatient unit with approximately 10 observation/day surgeries. The unit cares for patients with diagnoses including nursing home placement, cellulitis, UTI, COPD, GU issues, pacemaker management, sepsis, and day surgical cases such as ortho (hips and knees), cholecystectomy, appendectomy, TURPS-CBI. Small pediatric population (3/year) is generally not assigned to travelers unless prior experience or no other options.

Work Environment & Schedule

• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 5:1 day shift, 6:1 night shift (11pm) with LPN support
• Team nursing model with LPNs (2 LPNs to 7 RNs)
• 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM & 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
• Weekend rotation every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday coverage required (2 out of 3 holidays)
• Potential call/standby opportunities
• Floating required to like units and patients
• Orientation includes computer education (8 hours day 1), shadowing (4 hours day 1), 12-hour shift orientation day 2, and independent work day 3

Patient Care & Support

• No IV team onsite; RNs must be comfortable with IV starts
• Respiratory Therapist available 24/7, oversees entire hospital respiratory needs
• Hospitalist or Intensivist available in-house until 6 PM, telemedicine coverage after
• Tele/Monitor techs present in ICU; RNs have basic tele arrhythmia monitoring responsibilities
• Charge nurse role includes patient assignments; travelers may serve as relief charge nurse
• Nurse aides available on unit

Required Qualifications

• License: Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Michigan
• Experience: Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg or Med Tele RN experience in acute care settings (use the higher requirement if conflicting)
• Preferred experience with TURPS-CBI procedures
• Preferred experience in Critical Access or Trauma Level 3 or 4 facilities
• Must be comfortable with IV starts and working with limited onsite resources
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

Certifications

• BLS (AHA) required
• ACLS preferred

Additional Notes

• Solid professional dress code, no specific scrub color required
• Clinicians who have previously worked for this healthcare system must have a minimum 6-month gap since last employment
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
