Radiation Therapist

Location: Golden, Colorado Employment Type: Clinical, Non-Nursing Contract Length: 15 weeks Schedule: Day 8 shift, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM

Role Summary

The Radiation Therapist administers ionizing radiation for therapeutic purposes according to the Radiation Oncologist's prescription. The role also includes simulating patients in preparation for radiation therapy and providing basic patient care and education.

Key Responsibilities

• Check prescription, diagnosis, chart, and patient identification.
• Explain procedures to patients and reinforce the instructions of the radiation oncologist and/or nurses, including guidance on reactions to treatment.
• Prepare the room and equipment for each patient (e.g., immobilization devices, blocks, field sizes) and transfer patients as needed.
• Verify the treatment dose and beam energy against the treatment chart, and document treatment doses, parameters, instructions, and billing information.
• Perform treatment simulation, including cerrobend block fabrication, and develop x-rays and port films as needed.
• Observe patients for unusual reactions or events.
• Maintain order and cleanliness of the unit and appropriate stock levels.
• Complete daily, progress, and discharge documentation, and document productivity information.
• Participate in quality and patient safety initiatives, identify safety hazards, and escalate non-routine issues to the practice manager or healthcare provider(s).
• Complete safety checklists and quality controls as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience as a Radiation Therapist, with experience within the last year.
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• ARRT certification.
• RT(T) certification.
