Description

Job Summary

Step Down Unit position providing care for adult and geriatric patients in a combined medical-surgical and intermediate care setting. The role supports patients requiring cardiac monitoring, management of complex clinical conditions, and coordination with interdisciplinary services. The unit accepts first-time travelers.

Job Details

Schedule: Day shift, 12-hour shifts, 48 hours per week.
Required Qualifications: Minimum one year of experience; current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications; state or compact license in hand at the time of submission.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous charge experience and charting system experience.
Additional Information: The unit includes medical-surgical and intermediate care patients, with nurse-to-patient ratios ranging from 1:4 to 1:6 depending on assignment. Clinical responsibilities may include telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, rapid response and code team participation, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, cardiac drip management, oxygen and non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, post-cardiac procedure care, arterial line management, wound care, tracheostomy care, renal failure management, insulin and heparin protocols, cardiac telemetry, pacemaker care, post-myocardial infarction care, cerebrovascular accident care, and substance withdrawal management. Patients are supported by physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and transportation. Orientation includes 24 hours.
