Job Summary
The Inpatient Pharmacist is responsible for providing pharmaceutical care, ensuring the safe and effective use of medications within various hospital units. This role requires clinical expertise and collaboration with healthcare team members to optimize patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide pharmaceutical care across multiple units including ICU, IMC, ED, Med-Surg, OR, and central pharmacy.
- Participate in medication management including dosing and monitoring of vancomycin, aminoglycosides, heparin, and total parenteral nutrition (TPN).
- Ensure compliance with USP 797 standards, supervising and ensuring the accuracy of medication preparation by pharmacy technicians.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to optimize medication therapy and patient care.
- Participate in clinical rounds and provide drug information as needed.
- Contribute to departmental policies and procedures related to pharmaceutical care and medication safety.
Qualifications
- Active pharmacist license in the state of practice.
- BLS certification (AHA) required.
- 1+ years of inpatient pharmacy experience preferred.
- Knowledge and experience in TPN management and various medication dosages required.
- Experience with IV medication preparation preferred.
- BCPS certification is a plus.
Work Schedule
This position includes a night shift schedule from 9 PM to 7 AM, with a rotation of 7 days on and 7 days off. Weekend coverage is required every 3rd or 4th weekend, along with holiday shifts as assigned.
Orientation and Training
New hires will undergo a departmental orientation consisting of typical modules, supplemented by a specific 2-3 week orientation tailored to the pharmacy department.
Dress Code
Employees are required to wear scrubs, maintaining a clean and professional appearance or business casual attire as appropriate.
