Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in protecting, promoting, and optimizing health and abilities, preventing illness and injury, and alleviating suffering through patient diagnosis and treatment. This position emphasizes advocacy in the care of individuals and families. The RN is accountable for adhering to all standards of practice and engaging in professional development in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, organizational policies, and nursing ethics. Job Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a group of patients, serving as a primary or accountable nurse based on unit assignments and safety considerations.
- Educate patients and families on health promotion and disease management, utilizing available resources.
- Administer medications safely in accordance with organizational policy, utilizing a strong knowledge of pharmacology.
- Share responsibility for productivity and effective resource management, including staffing, time management, and supply utilization.
- Comply with all nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
- Participate actively in Nursing Shared Governance by supporting unit councils, engaging in improvement initiatives, and contributing to peer review processes.
- Engage in professional development and continuing education, completing all mandatory training requirements.
- Incorporate nursing research and current evidence into daily practice.
- Provide a supportive learning environment for new employees and students.
- Exhibit adherence to organizational values in all professional activities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Experience
- Registered Nursing (RN) experience of six (6) months to three (3) years.
- Management experience ranging from zero (0) to three (3) years.
- Five (5) or more years of direct nursing experience.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Judgment and critical thinking capabilities.
- Organizational understanding and planning skills (including time management).
- Effective problem-solving abilities.
- Commitment to quality and reliability in nursing care.
- Knowledge of safety and risk management practices.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting.
Education
- Required Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
- Preferred Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
Required Certifications & Licensure
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) License in the state of New York.
- BLS Certification from AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross.
- Unit-specific requirements as indicated in the Compliance Matrix.
Preferred Certifications & Licensure
- Professional certification in a related nursing specialty.
- Relevant skills certification (i.e., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) as required by the assigned unit.
Schedule Notes
This position typically requires a schedule of 8 hours a day, five days a week, with a shift from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM and every other weekend, primarily focusing on Medical/Surgical and Orthopedic departments including total joint procedures and various surgical specialties.
