Description
Position: Registered Nurse (RN) - Labor & Delivery (L&D)
Shift Notes: 36 hours guaranteed per week
Weekend Requirements: Possible
Job Description
The Registered Nurse in Labor & Delivery (L&D) will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following key skills and responsibilities:
- Patient Assessment: Perform comprehensive head-to-toe assessments on patients and conduct regular reassessments as per established policies.
- Pain Management: Assess and reassess patient pain using appropriate evaluation methods. Implement pain management strategies and educate patients and their families on effective pain relief techniques.
- Care Planning: Develop and update care plans based on patient responses to treatment, evaluating their effectiveness on a daily basis.
- Age-Appropriate Care: Provide care tailored to the specific needs of patients at different life stages, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles.
- Medication Administration: Administer medications safely, adhering to the five rights of medication administration and considering the patient’s age and clinical condition.
- Patient Education: Formulate teaching plans based on identified learning needs, and evaluate the effectiveness of education efforts involving the family as appropriate.
- Technical Skills: Demonstrate proficiency in performing technical and manual skills required for patient care.
- Professional Conduct: Treat patients and families with respect and dignity while addressing their psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs. Act as a liaison between patients, families, and healthcare providers.
- Safety Practices: Ensure a safe environment, proactively reducing the likelihood of medical errors through attentive patient care.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Consult with other departments to provide an integrated approach to patient care.
- Effective Communication: Maintain clear and professional communication with unit directors, coworkers, and physicians.
- Documentation: Ensure all documentation meets current standards and policies.
- Equipment Management: Maintain and operate medical equipment safely and effectively.
- Flexibility and Organization: Demonstrate the ability to be organized and flexible while functioning effectively under pressure.
- Competency Maintenance: Complete and maintain annual competencies, including bedside blood glucose testing.
Certification Requirements
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
State License Requirements
Must hold an active Ohio or compact license at the time of application.
