Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

The Float Pool Registered Nurse provides high-quality patient care across Medical-Surgical and Telemetry units, supporting a diverse adult and geriatric patient population. This role requires strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and the ability to care for patients with a variety of acute and chronic medical conditions while floating to multiple units as needed.

Unit Overview

• Unit Size: 31-40 beds
• Patient Population: Adult and Geriatric
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: Typically 1:4, 1:5, or 1:6 depending on patient acuity and unit needs
• Scrub Color: Navy Blue
• Call Requirement: No call required
• Float Requirement: Yes, throughout supported inpatient units

Ancillary Support

The unit utilizes ancillary staff to support patient care, including Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs).

Common Patient Diagnoses

• Pneumonia (PNA)
• Stroke
• Sepsis
• Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)

Specialized Procedures & Patient Care

Experience with the following patient populations and procedures is beneficial:

• Aquablation procedures
• Bariatric surgery patients
• Post-operative medical-surgical patients
• Telemetry monitoring and interpretation

Clinical Skills & Competencies

Airway and Respiratory Management

• CPAP/BiPAP management
• Tracheostomy care

Cardiac and Telemetry Care

• Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
• 12-Lead EKG acquisition
• Blood and blood product administration

Line and Equipment Management

• Feeding tubes
• PCA pumps
• PICC lines and central lines
• Surgical drains
• Wound vac therapy

IV Medications & Drips

Experience caring for patients receiving:

• Titrated Medications:
  • Amiodarone
  • Cardizem (Diltiazem)
  • Milrinone
  • Nitroglycerin
• Stable Drips:
  • Amiodarone
  • Heparin

Medical-Surgical Experience Requirements

Ideal candidates should have experience managing patients requiring:

• General Medical-Surgical care
• Orthopedic patient care
• Telemetry monitoring
• Stroke and cardiac patient management
• Care for patients with complex medical conditions and multiple comorbidities

Qualifications

• 2 years of nursing experience required
• Travel experience required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
