Role Overview
The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer plays a key role in delivering high‑quality imaging services that support accurate diagnosis and patient care. This role requires strong technical proficiency, clinical judgment, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with physicians, radiologists, and interdisciplinary teams.
The ideal candidate demonstrates professionalism, adaptability, and strong communication skills while upholding organizational standards, regulatory requirements, and patient‑centered care principles.

Key Responsibilities
Verify physician orders and ensure accuracy of requested procedures.
Utilize radiology information systems to support workflow and documentation.
Explain imaging procedures to patients to ensure understanding and comfort.
Independently operate ultrasound equipment to perform diagnostic imaging per protocol.
Assist radiologists with guided procedures across various clinical settings.
Review images for diagnostic quality prior to transmission.
Perform timely quality‑control procedures and address issues as required.
Support departmental operations, including inventory, scheduling, and equipment maintenance.
Adapt communication and care approaches to meet the needs of diverse patient populations.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Education
Completion of a CAHEA‑approved formal training program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
Required Experience
Minimum 2 years of professional experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.
Required Certifications
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS)
Must include Abdominal and OB/GYN certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – American Heart Association
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
Advanced certification(s) in specialty areas as required by facility
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Proficiency with computers, imaging software, and web‑based applications.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly to patients and clinical teams.
In‑depth knowledge of abdominal anatomy (liver, gallbladder, aorta, spleen, kidneys, bile ducts, pancreas) and related pathology.
Ability to perform high‑quality abdominal ultrasound exams and provide preliminary diagnostic impressions to radiologists.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on‑call shifts.
