Location: Elmira, NY

Contract Duration: 13 Weeks (07/19/2026 – 10/17/2026)

Orientation Timeline: Early onboarding orientation is scheduled to begin on 07/05/2026.

Shift Matrix: Primarily Nights | 19:00 – 07:30 (3x12-Hour Shifts)

Note: Position involves an occasional rotation to day shift (07:00 – 19:30) based strictly on unit operational and staffing needs. Guaranteed Hours: 36 Hours Per Week

Critical Submission Guardrails (Hardstops)

• Core Skill Alignment: Must be a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) with strong, standalone experience scrubbing in an active Labor & Delivery or maternal-child surgical theater.
• On-Call Status: Optional. While there is potential for on-call shifts if the candidate is willing, it is not a mandatory requirement of the contract.
• Floating Mandate: Must be fully willing to float to a standard "patient sitter" role house-wide to protect hours if the obstetric census drops low.
• Onboarding Mentorship Role: The incoming tech must be comfortable orienting and mentoring incoming permanent LPN and tech staff who are currently being onboarded by the department.
• Turnaround Expectations: Must actively perform room stocking and collaborative housekeeping/breakdown duties of the OR suites after surgical cases, especially during night hours when dedicated environmental service staff may be limited.

Job Summary

An acute care birthing pavilion in Elmira, NY is seeking an autonomous, highly cooperative L&D Surgical Tech to fill an open vacancy. Operating within a comprehensive maternal-child platform, this role requires a specialist capable of setting up sterile fields for emergency and scheduled Cesarean sections, tubal ligations, and emergent cerclages. Because the department is actively building its core team, the ideal candidate must possess the soft skills and clinical precision needed to orient permanent staff while maintaining supreme aseptic safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Obstetric Surgical Scrubbing: Independently prepare sterile fields, organize instrumentation, and seamlessly anticipate surgeon needs during C-sections, operative deliveries, and dilation & curettage (D&C) procedures.
• Meticulous Count Routines: Partner closely with the Circulating RN to perform strict, legally mandated visual and verbal surgical counts of all lap sponges, sharps, and instruments across all closure layers.
• Unit Maintenance & Turnaround: Take an active role in keeping surgical suites prepped by executing intermediate turnover cleanings between cases and maintaining stock levels across the labor and delivery rooms.
• Staff Integration: Provide structural guidance, workflow tips, and technique validation to newly hired permanent LPNs and technical support staff.

• Obstetric Infrastructure Grid: The dedicated footprint contains 8 private delivery rooms, 2 specialized triage bays, and 2 fully functional surgical OR suites.
• Adjacency Framework: Directly attached to an active 20-bed postpartum Maternity unit, demanding tight communication and fast responses during high-urgency fetal decelerations.
