COURSE FORMAT

About

The Bachelor of Professional Studies (BPS) degree with a concentration in nursing is an option for students who have completed high school general education requirements and have some work experience. The BPS degree, awarded through a four-year college program, prepares graduates for advanced study in a specialty field.

Rather than a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, which requires admission to a nursing program and subsequent nursing classes, the BPS with a nursing concentration is a more general undergraduate degree. While it does not prepare students to take the nursing board exam, graduates who want to practice as a nurse can pursue graduate nursing programs that accept applicants with a bachelor’s degree in any field. Another significant difference between the Bachelor of Science (BS) degree and the BPS degree is the study content. A BS degree consists of 50% (2 years) liberal and general arts courses and 50% (2 years) career-specific, focused courses. But a BPS degree will focus 75% of its credits on career-specific courses.
