CAC (NCBAC) - Certified Alzheimer Caregiver

The Certified Alzheimer Caregiver (CAC) certification is designed for caregivers, whether professionals or family members, who care for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. This certification validates the caregiver's understanding of Alzheimer's disease, caregiving strategies, communication techniques, and the ability to address the unique challenges faced by individuals with Alzheimer's.

Eligibility and Certification Requirements

Experience in caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s or related dementias, either professionally or personally.

Completion of a training program focused on Alzheimer’s care, which may include topics such as disease understanding, behavior management, communication skills, and safety.

On the CAC exam, a scaled score of 664 is required to pass, with the scale ranging from 300 to 900.

Exam Format

The computer-based exam is offered at Pearson VUE testing centers or online via remote proctoring.

The exam typically includes 100 multiple-choice questions covering Alzheimer’s disease, communication strategies, behavior management, personal care techniques, and safety measures.

CAC certificate holders can maintain certification with a $35 yearly renewal and six hours of continuing education credits.
