About
The Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course Instructor (ENPC-I) certification is overseen by the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA). The ENPC-I is a training program that prepares qualified nurses to teach the ENPC course to those seeking initial certification.
Becoming an ENPC-I takes a lot of time and dedication. This certification is meant for nurses who have a passion for both taking care of pediatric patients in emergencies and educating their colleagues.
Cost: $395
Course Format
Before taking the ENPC-I course, you must complete the ENPC provider course successfully. The instructor course focuses on teaching strategies and evaluation methods more so than the content of the course.
The ENPC-I course is an eight-hour course that consists of ten modules that focus on how to teach the course. These modules include topics like Adult Learning Theories, How to Teach a Lecture and Evaluating a Psychomotor Skill Station. Coursework is presented through mini-lectures, small group discussion, providing constructive criticism and feedback to peers, and running a skills statistician.
Certification
You must meet many requirements to obtain an ENPC-I certification. These include course prerequisites and monitoring requirements.
To be eligible to take the ENPC-I course, you must hold an ENPC Provider certification, and have achieved a 90% on the Provider written exam and at least 85% on the Provider skills stations. You must also submit a letter of recommendation from a course director supporting your potential as an instructor.
Once you are accepted into the course, you will have to supply additional information, including:
A copy of your active RN license
Copy of your current resume
A letter expressing your interest and commitment to teaching the ENPC course
You will also need a copy of the ENPC Provider manual to study from, and you will be provided with an ENPC Instructor manual after being accepted to the course.
After completing the coursework, you will have to complete monitoring requirements before you are allowed to teach courses independently. Specifically, you will be evaluated while teaching a minimum of lectures and the entire skill station of the Provider course. These requirements must be completed within 12 months of completing the instructor coursework.
This course is offered by various associations, healthcare facilities, and schools around the country, so availability varies depending on where you live. There are also some online options available.
