Emory was previously a local hospital known as Wesley Memorial Hospital and housed in an Atlanta mansion spared during the Civil War. Wesley Memorial expanded in 1922, moved to its current location in east Atlanta and changed its name to Emory University Hospital in the mid-1930s.
