Job Summary: Coordinates day to day activities of the Emergency Department. Oversees all patient care and patient throughput. Effectively utilizes the nursing process to ensure optimal nursing care and patient outcomes. Keeps manager, director, emergency department physician, administration or house supervisor informed of any significant issue. Works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team led by the Emergency Department Physician to meet the individualized need of the patient and family. Will practice within the parameters of the Illinois Nursing and Advanced Practice Nursing Act and Anderson Hospital policies and procedures. Practices autonomously and in accordance with professional nursing standards. Responsible to Nursing Supervisor (bed facilitator) for potential bed needs. Service and Quality Standards: 1. Conducts department huddles. 3. Facilitates all ED admissions. 4. Updates IDPH Bypass and EMSYTEM data base. 5. Handles conflict within and between other departments. 6. Participates in house-wide bed coordination. 7. Effectively utilizes the nursing process to ensure optimal nursing care and patient outcomes. 8. Provides age-appropriate and population specific patient care in a safe, skillful, accurate and efficient manner to newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations. 9. Completes focused and ongoing assessments and documentation. 10. Completed pain assessmentongoing and after intervention. 11. Supports patient's rights and responsibilities, including respect of cultural and religious diversity. 12. Assesses patient and family learning needs and provides ongoing education and evaluation. Documents readiness to learn, teaching, barriers and outcomes. 13. Completes documentation accurately and in a timely manner, according to hospital policies and procedures. 14. Engages in activities to expand and/or enhance the professional nursing role, which includes integration of research and evidence based practice. Expected to participate on committees, projects, as a preceptor and as charge when requested. 15. Provides leadership and autonomy in the professional practice setting and the profession. 16. Utilizes chain of command. 17. Maintains calm manner during abrupt changes in acuity and/or unit activity. 18. Recognizes own limitations and seeks assistance when necessary. 19. Is flexible with scheduling when necessary. 20. Delegates responsibilities to appropriate health care team members and monitors their activity and work performance. 21. Provides patients with appropriate instructions for discharge care and documents accordinglyensuring patients/family understanding. 22. Directs am call backs. Qualifications Education Requirements and Other Requirements: Education Level: Graduate of accredited nursing program Certification/Licensure: Illinois licensed or eligible CPR required ACLS, TNCC, PALS or ENPC, ECRN preferred Experience Requirements: Prior Emergency Department experience or other critical care environment required Education Requirements: Orientation, Annual competency standards, mandatory training and unit specific education Will have and maintain above credentialing Working Conditions: Exposure Category I: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or sin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes of them, are Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
