UPMC McKeesport is hiring a Full-Time Clinician or Clinician Fellow for our 5M Stepdown Unit! Schedule: This position will work 36-44 hours per week (typically 80 hours per pay period). Both 8 and 12-hour shifts will be required. Flexible weekend, holiday, and off-shift responsibilities (must be able to work if needed to ensure adequate staffing and functionality of the unit, this requirement will rotate within the leadership team). Hours are subject to change based on unit needs. This role supports nursing professional practice. The Clinician is under the direct supervision of the Unit Director or other department manager, the Clinician will complete and deliver employee evaluations, conduct the selection and hiring of staff, and manage the daily performance of a group of direct reports. The Clinician is responsible for providing service-based education and clinical expertise for staff including orientation and training, consultation on practice issues, and general coordination of clinical activities. As a Clinician, you will actively participate in the role of preceptor for student nurses, nurse interns, graduate and experienced nurses and assist with the development of new preceptors in their role. You will serve as a leader in clinical nursing practice, identifying patient and staff-focused opportunities for improvement and leading the change process. The Clinician assumes formal leadership responsibilities for one or more of the following: quality improvement, evidence-based practice, GN or new hire on-boarding and completes and/or assists with staff performance evaluations for direct reports as applicable. Qualifications: * Minimum 4 years of nursing experience for Senior Clinician title. * Minimum 3 years of nursing experience for a Clinician title. * Minimum 2 years of nursing experience for a Clinician Fellow title. * BS/BSN required. * If BS degree is not in nursing, a Master's or higher degree in Nursing is required. * Employees with a BSN may substitute a Master's degree with a UPMC-approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer and must be maintained. * Demonstrated competence as a Professional Staff Nurse: * Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately with the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit. * Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures. * Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families. * Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in the application of the nursing process. * Mobility and visual manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: * Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN). * Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in a practicing state. * National Certification preferred. * CPR is required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. * Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). * NIH Stroke Scale (NIH). * Acts 34 and 73 required with renewal.
