Registered Nurse - Corrections Department


New Salary Close Date: September 30, 2024 This position is under the direction of the Health Services Manager and follows medical orders from physicians and mid-level providers. It provides holistic nursing care to patients in a correctional setting. This is a "mandatory-testing" position that requires Drug Testing. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Follows all standards and patient care protocols, all federal, state, correctional health care standards, and the Escambia County Board of County Commissioner's policies, regulations, and guidelines Participates in the screening, evaluation, assessment and health care of inmates, whom may be seen in clinics, sick call, the infirmary, and confinement Provides treatments and administers medications following physician and mid-level orders Initiates appropriate actions in emergency situations Performs specific nursing tasks, such as intravenous insertion and care, venipuncture, and vital signs Responsible for complete and accurate documentation of care provided in the inmate's health record Maintains health services records logs and assists with data entry within the scope of nursing related items Supervises and coordinates Licensed Practical Nurses and paraprofessional nursing staff with professional nursing functions to ensure an efficient working environment Coordinates with medical, dental, mental health and ancillary personnel, as required, to ensure continuity of care Maintains accountability of all controlled substances and prescription medications according to federal and state laws and organizational regulations Participates in the monitoring, requisition and documentation of the use of medical supplies and equipment Facilitates and participates in inmate educational health programs Participates in continuing education and in-service training to maintain professional capabilities and proficiency Participates in the training and orientation of new employees Performs other duties as assigned TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications Requirements: Training and Experience: State of Florida Registered Nurse License Licenses and Certification: Valid State of Florida Registered Nurse License Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification at the time of employment Current ACLS card or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment Security Clearance Preferred Qualifications: Associate's of Science Degree in Nursing Correctional nursing experience Experience working in the Emergency Room and/or Intensive Care Unit Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics (KSAOs): Community resources Clinical operations and procedures Federal and state correctional health care standards, institutional policies and Regulations, and accreditation and certification requirements Clinical operations and procedures All facets of professional nursing, patient care, infection control, safety, quality Assurance, and institutional practices Forming and maintaining collaborative relationships Writing Current nursing practice Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interpersonal relations with Coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey Information and to receive work direction Work effectively with a diverse community SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION County-wide Employee Responsibilities: All Escambia County BCC employees must serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Escambia County BCC's Employee Code of Ethics, gift, and conflict of interest policies. Emergency Management Responsibilities: During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker. Material and Equipment Used: Various Medical Equipment Computerized Equipment Standard Office Equipment Microscope Two-Way Radio Physical Requirements: Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, talking, hearing, seeing, finger and hand dexterity as well as repetitive motions. Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, blood and other bodily fluids, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises and travel.
