DSHS CSTC Registered Nurse 2 Consider using your Registered Nurse license to empower children and teens on their road to recovery and fulfilled life.  You will provide nursing services to residents of the new 18-bed San Juan Cottage*; one of CSTC's programs for ages 15-17 at DSHS's Child Study and Treatment Center.     We are hiring for all shifts at this new cottage, as well as specific shifts at Orcas, Ketron, and Camano Cottages. Free ORCA cards are available for Pierce County employees.  Want to know more about the Child Study and Treatment Center?  Click on the video below to meet staff, take a tour, and explore your career.  To learn more about DSHS, go to www.dshs.wa.gov.   Some of what you will do  * Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary team in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of all patient care provided * Administer prescribed medications and treatments * Educate patients and families regarding medication, treatment plans, behavior interventions, and cottage programs * Report and document significant changes in patient condition * Monitor patients' safety and initiate interventions to prevent harm * Transport and accompany patients off-campus for specialty medical care Who should apply Professionals with a valid Washington State license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) or is the ability to obtain a valid Washington State license by start of employment Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:  * Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), preferred but not required * CPR certification * Work with children or adolescents and their families * Values collaboration to provide solutions and demonstrates excellent communication   What do Psychiatric RNs Do?    * Patients live in one of 4 cottages determined by age where they have individual bedrooms and a shared day area. Each cottage has its own kitchen and dining room. Admissions are due to forensic issues or CLIP referral. Behavioral characteristics of San Juan youth will include suicidal and para-suicidal behavior, aggression, interpersonal disorder, emotional instability, impulsivity, identity confusion, psychotic behavior, and in some cases an inability to manage basic self-care needs.  The focus of the program is to provide extended behavioral health treatment in order to help youth develop the skills necessary for them to return successfully to their families and communities.  The use of Dialectical Behavior Therapy addresses many of the core issues of our client population and serves as the primary theoretical orientation underlying the San Juan cottage program.
