As the ICU RN, you will be a vital member of a dynamic team responsible for diagnosing responses to actual or potential health problems and for providing basic emergent, supportive, and restorative care through use of the nursing process. Summary of Responsibilities * Provide direct care for patients who require intensive monitoring and interventions. * Accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients in our Intensive Care Unit * Assesses the health status of patients/families by means of comprehensive health history and physical examination * Initiates selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examination, interprets findings, and alters plan of care according to collaborative practice agreement and protocols in designated area * Educates and counsels in the areas of health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses * Documents findings and plan of care in the patient's medical record * Consults with physician per established Day Kimball Hospital policy * Intervenes to provide a safe environment and evaluates effectiveness of intervention for patients Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Ability to recognize unsafe and life-threatening situations and how to intervene appropriately * Demonstrated skills in critical thinking, effective communication, organizational skills, problem solving, and ability to make appropriate independent decisions * Working knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice * Demonstrated compassionate customer service and ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues * Solid foundation in evaluating plans of care and reformulating as necessary Qualifications * Graduate of an accredited school of nursing is required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred * Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of Connecticut is required. * American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification or equivalent is required; if not currently certified, must obtain within three (3) months of employment * Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area Day Kimball Healthcare is a non-profit, integrated medical services provider comprised of Day Kimball Hospital, healthcare centers in Danielson, Dayville, Plainfield and Putnam, Day Kimball Homecare, Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern CT, Day Kimball Homemakers, and Day Kimball Medical Group.
