Methodist Heart Hospital pioneered many procedures in cardiac care, including the first balloon angioplasty and the first heart valve transplant, and was the first hospital in San Antonio to offer a cardio-hospitalist program in which two cardiologists work in the hospital on rotating shifts, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, prepared to care for patients with signs and symptoms of a heart attack. Methodist Heart Hospital recently opened a Hybrid Operating Room, offering cardiology specialists and surgeons the opportunity to provide a wider range of services in a single room. Methodist Heart Hospital is the only private hospital in the area performing Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement, or TAVR.
