Traveler friendly for the most part, of course there are the select few “Karens” but I’ve been welcomed by most of the other staff & travelers. More of a CNA type of scope of practice than an EMS one, mainly just do EKGs, hook patients up to monitoring, assist with tasks like toileting, secretary duties, etc. If the staff knows you’re competent, they will put you in the more “critical” assignments like trauma bays or triage. Some nurses will try to run you ragged, you just have to stand your ground.

Pay is good through my travel company, department is heavy with travelers, I’d say probably 80% travelers vs. 20% staff. Nurse ratios are usually 1:3/4, techs usually have a “Pod” so anywhere from 6-10 patients. 

Usually have whatever supplies you need and if you don’t have it on the unit, you can usually get it. Not much flexibility with scheduling as far as travelers go, work every other weekend while staff works every third, contracts are for 4x12s.

This was a terrible environment from a supervisor who talks behind travelers backs and a few very rude and devious techs who abuse and disrespect techs and leave patients in bad helpless situations because unwilling to help travel techs! Most of them had no certificates or boards! I was way more certified and a much more educated technologist than any of them and was singled out and treated unfairly because of it! Will never work there again!
