The night shift team on 4D was great! I enjoyed the team work of RNs, techs, and RT - this night staff made all the difference! Everyone was so welcoming, willing to help me learn, and helpful - this was my first ever travel contract & was a great experience because of them! I had 4-5 pts each night & there were always 2-3 techs, and if I did get floated to PCU their staff was also welcoming & helpful. I was not offered to self schedule or block schedule which is understandable but no flexibility whatsoever & you receive your schedule one month at a time, but I was able to get my requested days off or trade shifts w/ staff. Nights parked in the garage right across from the hospital so I felt safe given the homeless population downtown. Cerner was the charting system, Omnicell medication machines, pharmacy was fast getting you medications. Cons were ER not having to call report, you never knew when you were getting an admit, lots of hoops & policies to get simple things done, couldn’t pick up extra shifts to help out the unit, no free charge nurse. Overall, a good place for a beginner travel nurse. I would def go back if given the opportunity.

Position Summary
Under general administrative direction, coordinates with the surgery team to provide surgical equipment room set-up according to physician preferences for all surgical procedures performed in the Operating Room. Assists with all surgery related equipment, coordinating logistics, maintaining cleanliness, organization and asset inventory. Participates in education and training of surgical equipment functioning with the surgery team. Functions as an advocate to improve efficiency for the surgeon and the surgery team, measurable by physician satisfaction and increased surgical capacity and caseload. Supports and helps achieve departmental goals. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned. MINIMUM EDUCATION: High School Graduate or equivalent PREFERRED EDUCATION: Biomedical training or Surgical Technology training MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Previous work experience in logistics, outfitting, provisioning, or equipment management or work experience as a Surgical Technologist PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Surgical Technology experience; or Management experience in logistics, outfitting or provisioning; or Biomedical experience REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: NA PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE:<ul><li>Credentialed in CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or; </li><li>Certification as a Certified Professional Logistician (CPL) from International Society of Logistics (SOLE); or </li><li>Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) from the International Certification Commission (ICC) and the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), or </li><li>Biomedical Electronics Technician (BMD) from the Electronics Technician Association (ETA) after first obtaining the Associate Electronics Technician certification  (CET). The Medical Laboratory Scientist II provides state-of-the-art laboratory specimen testing, including phlebotomy, from neonates to geriatric patients ensuring patient safety. 
 
 
 General Functions:<ul><li>Processes and tests blood and other body fluid specimens for the clinical laboratory</li><li>Reviews test results and applies the correct clinical interpretation of that data</li><li>Reports lab results accurately and responsively, to include use of a laboratory information system</li><li>Performs operation, maintenance and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment</li><li>Performs venous and capillary phlebotomy and ensures specimen integrity as necessary.</li><li>Performs basic clerical functions</li><li>Writes procedures and assist in the development of department policies </li><li>Acts as a resource person for providing information and problem solving for the Medical Technicians, Medical Lab Scientist I, Phlebotomists and other laboratory personnel</li><li>Additional responsibility includes assisting with new equipment validation and implementation, </li><li>employee and student training and competency assessment, regulatory compliance responsibilities for CAP, TCJ, AABB or other agencies, quality assurance, quality control and instrument maintenance. </li><li>Assists with R&amp;D projects as required</li><li>Relays orders, take inventory and stocks supplies</li><li>Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively</li><li>Maintains safe environment</li><li>Addresses patient population-specific needs</li><li>Participates in Performance Improvement activities</li></ul>MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree from an approved college or university and/or graduate of an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent such as military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489.
