Freedom healthcare is a good company to work with . In Maine they provided housing , transport . Eastern Maine  medical center was not so bad , the ratios were manageable , the staff on the unit I worked were mostly travelers, it was a mix of his and bad but overall not a bad place to work.i however heard that the medsurge floors were horrible , they didn’t treat travelers well .

I actually enjoyed working at EMMC. G6 is full of teamwork and ppl willing to help you so you dont feel alone or lost especially as a traveler. Management very much micromanages you to the nth degree, lol, but if you can get past that you’ll like the environment. The ratio for day shift M/S was 4:1 sometimes you may get 5, but if you’re overwhelmed they have Resource Nurses willing to assist. I’d never heard of a resource nurse, so it was definitely shocking in a good way, lol. I’ve learned alot and I’ve learned different ways of using Cerner. You wont be too disappointed if you take an assignment here.

Cardiac Stepdown

As an RT you have some autonomy but not full autonomy. RTs can intubate there. The hospital seems to be run mostly by PAs, some are great, while others are overly confident in their abilities while not heeding recommendations. The RT department there was great and full of knowledgeable RTs from top to bottom, always would check on you, and treated you like one of their own. There wasnt any official OT to pick up and were all on call shifts if you wanted a chance at OT.

This is not a place to send new travelers,  even with experience I found it a hostel environment

This facility may be okay on other floors but on Grant 6, it’s terrible (all of the other floors know about grant 6 and floaters dread coming)! Management doesn’t not work with you/ care about your well being. My coworkers were the most enjoyable part. Aside from that this floor is run terribly and there is turn over for a reason your license is on the line everyday!

      <p>American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift ICU position requiring neuro and trauma experience and an active ME or compact RN license.</p>
      
            <h2>Responsibilities</h2>
            <ul><li>Work in a hospital-based Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a Level II Trauma Center</li><li>26-bed ICU including negative pressure rooms</li><li>Patient population includes medical, surgical, trauma, neuro, ortho, and interventional cases</li><li>Experience with ICP monitoring, external ventricular drains (EVD), spinal precautions, DKA, multisystem trauma, sepsis, ARDS, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, stroke</li><li>Typical ratio is 1:2 based on acuity; may have a third patient during transition</li><li>Uses Cerner EMR system (preferred experience), Alaris, and Pyxis equipment</li><li>12-hour night shifts (7P-7A); every other weekend required</li><li>No on-call responsibilities</li><li>Floating may occur to Cardiac ICU, Cardiac Stepdown, Medical Stepdown, or PICU if experienced</li><li>Primary duties include comprehensive ICU nursing care for diverse and complex patient populations</li><li>Team includes unassigned charge nurse, 24/7 resource nurse/house supervisor, RT, hospitalist, intensivist, trauma surgery team, and weekday PT/OT</li><li>General hospital orientation is followed by one unit-based shift</li><li>Holiday coverage varies by need; time off requires manager approval</li><li>Solid color professional scrubs required</li><li>Free designated parking available</li><li>Influenza vaccination required for all starts from 9/30/2024 onward; medical exemptions must be pre-approved</li><li>First-time travelers will be considered for this position</li><li>Travel pairs will not be placed in the same position</li></ul>

            <h2>Responsibilities</h2>
            <ul><li>Work in an Intermediate Care/PCU unit within a hospital setting</li><li>Handles patient populations including trauma (Level II), cardiac, neuro, respiratory, and medical/surgical cases</li><li>Patient ratio is typically 1 RN to 3-4 patients per shift</li><li>Uses Cerner EMR with preference for prior Cerner experience</li><li>12-hour night shifts from 7PM to 7AM with every other weekend required</li><li>Float to ED, ICU, or CCU may be required for intermediate level assignments in those departments</li><li>Unit staffed with CNA, resource nurse, RT, hospitalist, phlebotomy, and PT/OT support</li><li>Daily responsibilities include caring for trauma, neuro, respiratory, medical/surgical, and cardiac patients</li><li>Will manage cardiac, respiratory, neuro, and general surgical complications in a Level II trauma environment</li><li>Provide Q2H neuro checks for stroke and stable craniotomy patients</li><li>Charge experience is preferred; please indicate if you have held a charge role</li><li>Unit support includes 24/7 resource nurse and respiratory therapy, as well as phlebotomy and IV/VAT team support for certain procedures</li><li>General hospital orientation provided, followed by one unit-specific training day</li><li>May be scheduled for low census call-back depending on patient volumes</li><li>Flu vaccination is required for all assignments starting after 9/30/2024 unless medical exemption is granted</li><li>Professional scrubs of any color are permitted</li><li>Holiday coverage is based on unit needs and may be required</li></ul>
