<h3>Assignment Overview</h3><ul><li>Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs</li><li>Hours: 36 hrs/wk</li><li>Start Date: Aug 31, 2026</li><li>Length: 13 weeks</li><li>Openings: 2</li></ul><h3>Description</h3>American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg unit, requiring EPIC experience and at least 2 years of medical-surgical nursing background.<h3>Details</h3><ul><li>Acute care Med/Surg unit within a hospital setting</li><li>32-bed unit currently operating with 20 beds due to staffing levels</li><li>Nurse-to-patient ratio of no more than 5:1, with both RNs and LPNs on staff</li><li>Patient population includes CP, CHF, pneumonia, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, ortho, detox, post-op surgical cases, and pediatric patients</li><li>Unit does not accept laboring mothers or patients on titrating cardiac or insulin drips</li><li>RNs are not required to titrate drips</li><li>ICU monitor techs read telemetry strips and fax results to the unit for documentation</li><li>Unit is supported by 3 nurse aides per shift</li><li>Respiratory therapy equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow, with RT support available at all hours</li><li>EPIC EMR experience required</li><li>12-hour night shifts, scheduled 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM</li><li>Every other weekend required, with night shift falling on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday</li><li>Holiday coverage rotates with regular staff</li><li>No call or standby requirements</li><li>Floating required, frequently assisting other units as a tasker or extra support</li><li>No specific scrub color required, though camo and orange are not permitted</li></ul><h3>Requirements</h3><ul><li>Active RN license (Maryland or Compact) required</li><li>Minimum 2 years of RN experience required</li><li>Strong Med/Surg background required due to the variety of patient types on the unit</li><li>Current BLS (AHA) certification required</li><li>NIHSS certification required</li><li>ACLS and PALS certifications recommended but not required</li><li>EPIC EMR experience required</li><li>Unexpired copy of driver's license required for consideration</li><li>No first-time travelers considered for this position</li></ul><h3>Additional Information</h3><ul><li>Provide direct patient care to a diverse Med/Surg population including medical, surgical, and select pediatric cases</li><li>Document telemetry readings communicated by ICU monitor techs</li><li>Collaborate with respiratory therapy for CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow patient needs</li><li>Unit-specific orientation includes a tour, introductions, policy review, and 3-5 days of on-unit training alongside MediTech, pharmacy, and lab training</li><li>Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible, as local candidates are not accepted</li><li>Returning travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying</li><li>Former permanent staff at this facility are not eligible to return as travelers</li><li>Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year without taking a required 2-year break</li></ul>
