I enjoyed my time in the Stroger Cath Lab as a contractor. I was treated like part of the team, the physicians and staff are extremely friendly and the patient population is grateful. I was able to provide a high standard of care, which is important to me. I was part of the team at Stroger for over 2 years and would definitely return.

Floated to med surg every other shift as an ICU nurse. They tried to give me 7 patients on more than one occasion.

No say in your schedule.  staff are rude. There’s no urgency at all. Essentially clinic work as their trauma unit is separate. Have to go five places to find one thing

Most of the staff is rude. Management doesn’t doesn’t seem to care. The travelers here are pretty nice. Parking is expensive if parking on campus.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE PLACE TO WORK

This place needs travelers, but it’s not travelers friendly. Your first day is threats and being told all the ways they will cancel you. In the ER you will have up to 6 pts and when it’s break time you watch the person’s pts next to you. So many safety issues. It’s not worth it

Great place to work if you are very open-minded, have low expectations, don't mind floating out of your specialty, can handle getting cussed and and verbally abused, and feel comfortable with aggressive patient populations. Most travelers I know would absokutely hate this place, but honestly I loved the staff and had a good time working there.

Staff is very rude and unprofessional. As a traveler you get floated many times during your shift. I got floated 3 times during my shift. They give you the hardest assignments without considering patient safety.

Telemetry

Lack of SOPs, resources, and direction for employees. Management does not know anything about how the labs and specimen processing (LTSS) function. Management's response of "I don't know" for hours of departments, where procedure are or if they exist, how new hires are trained, any organization or documentation for training, what to do when senior staff refuses to train new people, is beyond anything I've seen before. I'm surprised this hospital still functions with how much management work is offloaded onto staff who do not get paid nor are trained for doing managerial work. The work culture/atmosphere is extremely toxic. Blatant homophobia, racism, sexism, and hostility are commonplace at John H Stroger Hospital. I was warned by multiple people that cook county Hospital is a "difficult" place to work; I wish people would have just been honest and say it is a barely functioning healthcare system with a hostile work environment.
