<h3>Assignment Overview</h3><ul><li>Shift: Rotating, 3x12hrs</li><li>Hours: 36 hrs/wk</li><li>Start Date: May 18, 2026</li><li>Length: 13 weeks</li><li>Openings: 1</li></ul><h3>Description</h3><p>American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg and ER Swing position requiring ED experience, critical thinking in a low-staffing environment, and the ability to manage patients from swing bed through critical/trauma levels.</p><h3>Details</h3><ul><li>Acute care setting with 9 Med/Surg beds and 3 ER patient bays</li><li>Float position requiring RNs to rotate between Med/Surg and Emergency Department</li><li>Patient population includes swing bed rehab, pain control, pneumonia, hypertensive crisis, bowel obstruction, and some cardiac cases, as well as critical and trauma patients</li><li>Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 with CNA support</li><li>CNAs assist with hourly rounding, blood sugars, vital signs, and patient care</li><li>Minimal staffing model: typically 2 licensed nurses and one CNA on the floor</li><li>RNs are required to titrate drips including insulin, amiodarone, cardizem, and levophed</li><li>RNs must read and document their own telemetry strips; Mindray monitors used</li><li>RNs are expected to perform complete EKGs</li><li>Respiratory equipment on unit includes BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, and a Hamilton T1 ventilator; patients requiring escalated respiratory support are typically transported to a higher level of care</li><li>12-hour shifts rotating days and nights (6:45am–7:15pm and 6:45pm–7:15am)</li><li>Every 3rd weekend required (Friday night through Sunday night rotation)</li><li>Every 3rd holiday required; holiday schedule follows the permanent staff rotation</li><li>MEDITECH EMR used</li><li>Schedules are posted 4–6 weeks out by the manager</li><li>On-call is voluntary for high census and may be assigned during low census periods</li></ul><h3>Requirements</h3><ul><li>Active MN RN license (Standard or Compact) required; pending licenses not accepted</li><li>Current AHA certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC; pending certifications not accepted</li><li>Minimum 1 year of RN experience required</li><li>Emergency Department experience required in order to float between Med/Surg and the ER</li><li>Proficiency in admitting, discharging, and transferring patients</li><li>Experience titrating IV drips and working with PICC lines and ports</li><li>Ability to respond to and participate in codes (cardiorespiratory, stroke, sepsis) and trauma activations</li><li>Ability to work independently with minimal staffing and communicate directly with hospitalists</li><li>Driver's license required for consideration</li><li>2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire</li></ul><h3>Additional Information</h3><ul><li>Facility follows EMTALA regulations and utilizes flight transport for patient transfers</li><li>Nursing is the only 24-hour department; ancillary departments are on-call on weekends and nights</li><li>Orientation is typically one week but may be adjusted based on demonstrated skill level; ability to adapt quickly is essential</li><li>No specific scrub color requirement</li><li>Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as shown on driver's license) to qualify for travel rates</li><li>Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered</li></ul>
