I worked in surgery. I can say that the staff and Nurse managers are amazing people! The director of surgical services is also over just about all specialty services and seems to have unrealistic expectations. She doesn’t make any effort to even acknowledge her own staff by name. It’s quite unfortunate because this team busts their butts daily with little to no appreciation from admin. Surgery is where a hospital’s bread is buttered. These people deserve AT LEAST a good morning! I found her nothing less than pompous and rude!

As OB we have to float a lot if our census is low. I floated 8 of my first 12 shifts

It was a dangerous environment , the nurses were over worked and making mistakes that cost people lives . I’ve seen more people die here than any other assignment

      <p>American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor &amp; Delivery position requiring an active ME or compact RN license and comprehensive LDRP care skills.</p>
      
            <h2>Responsibilities</h2>
            <ul><li>Work in the OB unit of a hospital with a Level III Nursery and LDRP model of care</li><li>Patient population includes low-risk laboring patients, postpartum mothers, and newborns, with high-risk cases transferred out</li><li>Care includes laboring patients, postpartum mothers, well babies, post-partum hemorrhage, preeclampsia, HELLP, bilirubin babies, NAS babies, and occasional Med/Surg overflow</li><li>Typical ratios are 1:2 for laboring, 1:1 for active labor, 1:3-4 for couplets, and 1:2-3 for Med/Surg patients based on AWHONN guidelines</li><li>Night shift from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week, with every other weekend and holiday required</li><li>Uses Cerner charting system</li><li>Floating may be required to Med/Surg or ED for tasks only</li><li>Responsible for antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and couplet care in an LDRP setting</li><li>No dedicated nursery; nurses are responsible for care of well babies on the unit</li><li>Procedural scrubs provided for OR; professional scrubs of any color allowed otherwise</li><li>Unit support includes at least two nurses per night, midwife, OB on call, charge nurse, HUC (part time), RT and hospitalist available 24/7, no CNAs</li><li>General hospital and one shift unit orientation provided</li><li>Must have flu vaccination for clearance; only medical exemptions allowed with pre-approval</li><li>Free parking is available on site</li><li>Travel pairs are not accepted for this position</li></ul>

      <ul><li>Active ME or compact RN license required</li><li>Minimum of 2 years recent L&amp;D experience; first-time travelers must have 3+ years recent L&amp;D experience</li><li>Current BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring certifications required</li><li>STABLE certification required within 30 days of start</li><li>Proficient in all phases of Labor and Postpartum care including care of newborns and LDRP model</li><li>Experience with shoulder dystocia, epidural management, nitrous, intrathecal spinal analgesia, and basic neonatal care</li><li>Not eligible if previously employed in a permanent capacity at any Northern Light Health Hospital</li><li>Must reside at least 100 miles South/Southwest of Bangor, ME</li></ul>

            <ul><li>Work in a mixed acuity ICU within a hospital setting</li><li>Unit has 9 ICU beds and cares for both ICU and Med Surg level patients based on acuity and census</li><li>Patient populations include vents, sepsis, PNA, DKA, detox, CHF, COPD exacerbation, surgical complications, and occasional pediatric post-op patients</li><li>Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3, acuity based</li><li>Required to work 12-hour night shifts (7P-7A), with every other weekend scheduled</li><li>Floating may occur to Med Surg (1:5 days / 1:6 nights) or ED for task assistance</li><li>Uses Cerner EMR system</li><li>No on-call requirements</li><li>Care for a diverse population of critical and acute patients, including those with substance use disorders and complex post-surgical needs</li><li>Team supported by a charge nurse, 24/7 RT, 24/7 hospitalist, and intensivist consults</li><li>Centralized telemetry monitoring available</li><li>General and unit-specific orientation provided, including online modules and one on-unit shift</li><li>Charge training provided as required based on staffing needs</li><li>Professional scrubs required; any color permitted</li><li>Free parking is available</li><li>Holiday coverage required as needed</li><li>Flu vaccination required for all assignments starting after 9/30/2024, with only medical exemptions considered</li><li>First-time travelers are welcome to apply</li></ul>
