The Lead Wound Care Nurse will supervise the wound care team members and educate hospital staff regarding the management of wounds and the prevention of nosocomial pressure injuries. The Lead WCN will provide direct patient care for evaluation and education purposes. The Lead WCN will establish and maintain practice standards and ensure adherence to policies and procedures related directly to caring for patients with pressure injuries. The Lead Wound Care Nurse (WCN) demonstrates a high degree of professional competence in a specialized field of nursing and utilizes advanced theoretical and empirical knowledge and a scientific approach to problem solving. Maintains standard of care by monitoring staff activity and adjusting assignments as needed: monitors orientee's activities and assists preceptors in enhancing orientee's experience; assist with difficult orientation situations and/or assignment needs; delegates patient care activities to ensure they are completed by the end of the shift; assigns patient admissions and transfers; monitors patient care and provides feedback to staff members on patient care practices. Holds staff accountable for the care of assigned patients; ensures staff education; confers with staff and makes rounds on patients during the shift and as needed; audits patient charts/records for compliance; assesses the patient and family responses to nursing care; performs specialized technical skills related to specific clinical patient population. Ensures compliance with the Emergency Severity Index scales according to standards. Utilizes professional judgment and data to make staffing decisions; and communicates staffing decisions to the staffing office, Emergency Department Manager and or Sr. Director as needed.• Participates in hiring process, which may include: review applications; interviews applicants (potential staff members) after the Manager's/Director's initial screening; includes shift staff, as appropriate; completes appropriate interview documentation; makes recommendations regarding staffing needs / skill mix. Counsels staff members as indicated by performance or behavior: utilizes steps in progressive discipline in collaboration with the Emergency Department Leadership Team; documents according to prescribed procedures and maintains an objective relationship with staff; issues are promptly identified and staff counseled during same shift or next working shift; Manager/Director/Sr. Director is appraised of all staff counseling.Conducts evaluations: completes evaluations within the month of the due date; works with staff to determine their realistic goals; meets regularly with assigned staff throughout the year, providing constructive feedback and direction; maintains documentation of progress of employees May complete or assist Professional Development and the Manager//Sr. Director in a learning needs assessment and gap analysis of the staff annually. Ensures that education plans are instituted based off the assessment and utilizes adult learning theories to facilitate staff growth. Assess competency, credentials and ensures appropriate orientation to unit for all Registry and or Travel personnel. Ensures that staff follow the policy and procedure for working with Registry and Travel personnel. Develops and uses a system to continuously evaluate and respond to customer concerns. Assures that the Watson Model of Care is implemented in the Emergency Department setting. Collaborates with Care Management in planning for discharge and/or transfer of patients. Promotes staff compliance with hospital safety and emergency procedures on a daily basis Guides staff in investigation and completion of variance reports and forwards completed reports to Nurse Manager or Director. Review Payroll in Kronos: monitors overtime; monitors usage of agency personnel; monitors tardiness and absenteeism. Maintains intimate knowledge of Emergency Department policies and procedures and acts as a resource for the RN's in the department. Other duties as assigned.#LI-AJ1POSITION REQUIREMENTS A. Education Bachelor of Science degree in nursing required. B. Qualifications/Experience Minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience in Emergency Services with regard to regulatory guidelines and standard of practice; minimum one (1) year leadership experience. Current California Nursing license C. Special Skills/Knowledge Bilingual skills preferred (Spanish) Basic computer skills Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Must complete annual Workplace Violence Prevention Program/Certificate, per hospital policy, during initial training/orientation but not to exceed 30 days from hire/transfer. Experience with an Electronic Medical Record preferred.
