This hospital in northern Michigan does not know how to utilize surgical assistants and neither do the surgeons. They basically think you’re a tech that can close skin. I am a certified( both CSA and CSFA), and licensed assistant, but the surgeon will look at me and ask “ Do you close” smh what do you think we do. At most places I am treated as a peer akin to a mid-level. I strive to remain current in all specialties and the latest techniques. I attend conferences and not just the ones for my association. I have my own loupes and I am constantly amazed that most assistants do not. They look at me funny when I bring my loupes to a case. I am just blown away. This has to be the most maligned profession. If you are an assistant that loves to assist and takes pride in what you do, do not come here!

• Work on a 28-bed Medical Surgical Unit serving diverse patient population including general and vascular surgery, bariatric surgery, plastic surgery, trauma, and stroke patients 
• Fast-paced, challenging environment with excellent learning opportunities for both graduate and experienced nurses 
• Every other weekend schedule required 
• No on-call responsibilities 
• 2+ years of Medical Surgical experience required 
• Travel experience preferred 
• Michigan nursing license required with LARA and Nursys verification
