They will make you float all around, you cannot ask to keep your same assignment if you work several days in a row. No teamwork from staff.  As a traveler you will get the worse assignment.

Maybe some managers are nice and honest, but so far I have been to 2. Both managers are nice at first to your face and tell you what you want to hear (and will even lie to your face!!). As you work for then and your unit, you begin to understand that the managers and the company do whats best for themselves and don't care about you. They care about having another nurse to fill the spot. If you accept a job, just know that I warned you. If you end up at a hospital and it's all around amazing, just know you hit the luckiest jack pot. All the best!

Telemetry PCU - Progressive Care Unit

Overall the ER staff is great, providers are respectful, nurses do a good job helping each other out, and the hospital staffs medics to help with simpler tasks.  The problem is that HCA is completely disconnected with the reality of what actually occurs in the department and doesn't realize the department can't be run solely by reviewing metrics.  There won't actually be enough staff to cover any breaks, but the charge nurses won't sign off on "no lunch break received" paperwork because based on the metrics, there should be enough staff to cover breaks.  For instance, one zone will have two nurses covering ten patients and management expects those two nurses to break each other, leaving one nurse to cover ten patients.  Nurses will get flexed home too early because metrics.  The charting system Meditech is by far the worst of the four charting systems I've used.  Unintuitive, antiquated, and dangerous is the best way to describe it.  It looks and works like a 1996 microsoft program.

Typical HCA

NICU: Extremely dangerous work environment. Staff is inexperienced or not available to help. Charge is impossible to find and get ahold of. You will have 3-4 patients every night or you will have two highly acute patients, still not safe. Attendings are rude and do not want to be bothered/ woken up. Was told “we just keep patients alive” on nights. Was floated constantly, to the point I didn’t see my unit for 3 weeks. Also tried to float me to an adult oncology unit and sent me home when I refused the assignment and tried to mandate I come in that weekend. Had an accidental needle stick and charge did not follow protocol and waited till day shift got there to report or do anything about it. They also do not keep track of their travelers contracts well and will try to schedule and call you in after you contract is up. Extremely disorganized and unsafe. Wouldn’t go back even if I was desperate. The only positive take away is self scheduling & low weekend requirements.

UNSAFE

Bad patient to nurse ratio. Not at all traveler friendly. A very toxic environment. Unhappy staff and was floated to other units even when our unit was under staffed. Do not recommend.
