This is a very busy EP lab. The staff is great and very supportive. I really like the team atmosphere. They are doing a lot of clinical trials and are very up to speed with the latest technology so you will learn a lot!

A fantastic, respiratory centric, travel friendly environment. Great educators, great orientation. A high level of acuity, with an accompanying workload, but a very supportive, team oriented environment.

MedSTAR, Washington hospital is located a few miles north of the US Capital building in D.C. The OB department was truly my favorite place I’ve ever worked. They really appreciated my hard work and commitment to patient care. My first day, I noticed how the supervisor and several managers were hands-on in the department, answering the phones, caring for patience, scrubbing in the OR. That really earned my respect from day one. I’ve never worked a place that was perfect but MedSTAR was a pleasure. I came there for challenge and it did not disappoint. Most days it was very busy, but the staff in the OR, and on the floor made even the busy days enjoyable. I went there for my first 13 week, travel assignment, and ended up staying a full year. When I wasn’t busy in the OR, I enjoyed helping out on the floor, assisting the nurses, helping out as equipment tech, and assisting the environmental services crew. The unit has three operating rooms, 4 triage rooms, 4 additional overflow triage rooms, 12 labor and delivery rooms and 3 recovery rooms. You will see everything that the job has to offer at this hospital as the patients are diverse in their needs and their cultures. I wanted to be in a hospital where I could serve as many people as possible and this truly was the place. 3 to 4 C sections most days working as the only Surgical tech for my 12 hour shifts. They have a parking garage that’s connected to the hospital via a walk across bridge and also some offsite parking lots that have shuttle buses. Parking there cost about $60 per month for travelers which is very affordable. The hospital itself is huge as it serves thousands in the area. There were some days I had some downtime but this is a place you come to work and earn every dollar that you’re paid. I am a traveling OB surgical tech and was paid very fairly and treated with respect. To be successful, Work hard. Show up and clock in on time, Be prepared to start work soon after, check your operating rooms right away and make sure you’re ready for the first case or 2 as soon as possible, help others when you’re not busy, make sure all your work is complete before end of shift; that philosophy seem to work very well for me at this hospital. I made a lot of great friends there, had so much fun in the OR with the patients, the doctors and nurses. Got to save a lot of lives. Everyone I met there from people who worked in the basement in the sterile processing department, the cleaning department, secretaries, security officers, employees at every level, people were just very nice. I hope I get a chance to work at this hospital again!
