Great assignment. Friendly folks. The facility is somewhat disorganized with equipment and supplies, though once you figure it out where stuff is, it's a bit manageable.

Very busy. Med surg Nurse:Patient ratio is 1:8, 4 if you're lucky to not have an admission. There are times that some nurses took 9-10 med surg patients. Some coworkers are nice, some are not. No core nurses and charge at night so you'll work with mostly travelers. Most of the time, you save your own butt and protect your license because sometimes working is unsafe.  What I like about mercy is they have phlebotomist and IV team.Some pca's i wokred with have initiative and they know what to do. Rapid response team are also quick in responding and nice. I love the food in the cafeteria especially their salad bar and brisket. Majority of the population of my patients are adorable old people, most of them are just sick.  But all in all, mercy is tolerable. I loved the unit i worked at and only hate it if I get floated 3x/week.

7D-Ancillary support is poor. They act like they want to support you then behind employees backs they talk about them to other employees. It makes the entire unit not be able to trust the support staff. They talk about how great their floor is and how great the nurses are, but they forget that the majority of them are travelers. Then when they hire “core staff” they treat the travelers like they don’t know what they are doing yet expect us to train their new employees.

Not a bad unit at first, management willing to work with schedules but beyond that, absolutely unprofessional and toxic. A strong religious culture is constantly being pushed down your throat. While I have never had issues addressing providers in a informal manner, providers are placed on a pedestal that nursing clearly works for them. The pay was bare minimum and the ratios were awful. Red flags since day 1 and very hostile towards travelers to the point staff would make it a point to "teach" you their ways.
