Major improvements, new manager, educator and director were real; all nurses who would back you up as best they could, but facing upper management down can be difficult.

ED - Emergency Department

New management still trying to get the unit together. Favoritism, doctors that don’t “believe in” evidence based practices, a lot of new people who are still learning. The unit has potential but definitely a work in progress.

Caregiver Beware

OR - Operating Room

Hospital is ghetto AF, broken equipment, depressing environment, uses Cerner. Coworkers mostly nice, ICU manager Rossana is amazing to work with, but plenty of high school gossip like you find in most other nursing environments. Will be floated often regardless of experience while ICU is filled with new grads fresh off orientation and inexperienced residents. Upper management puts patient safety second to profits.

ICU - Intensive Care Unit

Most￼ emergency departments these days are hectic and overrun with borders, but this one particularly is out of control. There is definitely a shortage of nurses and nonstop ambulances and you can end up with 6 to 8 patients at a time. The people are cool, but they definitely work you ￼￼

Med Surg / Telemetry

This hospital is very dated. Basic supplies are lacking, the charting system (Meditech) is terrible, and all rooms require a major overhaul. The IV pumps look at least 20 years old and lack basic safety features. Most of the beds are broken (buttons don’t work, brakes don’t engage) and electricity is faulty and surges in a lot of the rooms. On my floor the ratios are 1:5-6. There are no nursing assistants overnight and while permanent staff there are experienced and intelligent, there is and “every man for himself” mentality which shows a severe lack of teamwork.

This hospital is awful. The lack of staff on night shift was terrifying. We had to do our own lab draws at night, no IV team, no rapid response team, poor communication with the residents, many of them new and not super knowledgeable yet so it is basically all in your hands. The meditech they use is older than old. I always tell people to never go there.

I feared for my license and the patients' safety!
