I had the pleasure of working at St. Johns this year. Raul, the day shift lead is great and tries his best to make sure that the doctors and nurses have what they need for the procedures. The manager, while nice, doesn’t seem to know the ends and outs of the department as well as he should and relays on the leader’s help in just about everything. This can be a bit frustrating for the technicians because the manager is supposed to be the head of the ship. If they cannot trust the manager to execute a simple issue without the help of the lead, the whole department is pretty much left fragile. The department overall is in great need of upgrades, ESPECIALLY the decontamination area. The washers break down every single second of the day. The sinks aren’t big enough to fully submerge the instruments. There aren’t any spray guns for lumens. It’s tough because the technicians really work hard, but the equipment is in dire need of replacement & it makes it very difficult to make sure instruments are clean. Almost every time, there’s an instrument has to be sent back because it hasn’t been decontaminated properly. That’s not all the fault of the technician, but mostly with the equipment that is available to do the job. That was one of a few reasons why I decided not to stay.

      <p>American Traveler is seeking a Nuclear Medicine Technologist with at least 1 year of experience and active BLS and ARRT certifications.</p>
      
            <h2>Responsibilities</h2>
            <ul><li>Position based in an acute care hospital in a beachside location</li><li>Work in the Nuclear Medicine department with a patient ratio of 1:2</li><li>Day shifts are Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM with required rotational on-call coverage</li><li>Rotational call required weekdays from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM, weekends and holidays from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM</li><li>Must be able to perform lymphoscintigraphy studies including tracer injection</li><li>Use of Epic EMR is required</li><li>Floating between facilities within the state may be required</li><li>Must be available for weekend and holiday shifts as part of the rotational call schedule</li><li>Must commit to working at least 3 out of 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)</li><li>First-time travelers will be considered for this position</li><li>Return staff policy requires a 3-month waiting period before re-assignment</li><li>Locals are accepted but subject to local pay rules for candidates living within 50 miles</li><li>Scrub color requirements are navy blue for RNs</li><li>All travelers are expected to float between all facilities within the state as needed</li></ul>

      <ul><li>Minimum of 1 year of recent experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist</li><li>Current BLS and ARRT certifications required</li><li>Experience with Epic charting system preferred or required</li><li>Must possess a valid CA license if applicable</li><li>LA fire card required within the last 30 days</li><li>Two supervisory references covering 1 year within the last 3 years required for consideration</li></ul>
