I can on my attest to ultrasound imaging and not any other modality. Education, scanning techniques and knowledge is approximately 15 years behind, even compared to one of its sister hospitals. It is small town knowledge. Required images are such that a child could be taught in week or so. There is less stress on the individual because it is expected that one is unknowing. In a natural setting a Sonographer is highly valuable and uniquely trained therefore pathological finding are operator dependent and from point A to point B the scan can include the needle in the haystack so to speak. For example, a rlq pain patient may have kidney stone and not a testicular torsion or possible a perforated IUD in a female. Speaking to one’s patient and finding the problem in order for it to be treated is paramount whereas in this facility, just performing the exam ordered is what is wanted. No need for a brain, problem solving skills or knowledge. It’s also very clicky. When one begins as an X-ray tech then cross trains to ultrasound there is no true schooling in place or training hands on by a physician. The knowledge is so limited, that person only finds comfort in asking the one that trained them. In the end it is an endless cycle of limited knowledge and staff keeping clicks with the ones they trained. There is no environment of growth, welcoming etc. However so, to one’s face they act that way and behind their back they talk major explicatively. The person does not know it just like I do not know what is said about me, nor do I care. If you are patient care focused and just looking for good pay,  it is a great place for you. If you are looking for something long term, cower to them and join the click and you are all set.

Though the benefit and pay package is exceptional it was not worth the toxic work culture and environment. This is not the place for marginalized or POC nurses to thrive. Their HR team is very hostile, be cautious.
