<h3>Assignment Overview</h3><ul><li>Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs</li><li>Hours: 36 hrs/wk</li><li>Start Date: Nov 2, 2026</li><li>Length: 13 weeks</li><li>Openings: 2</li></ul><h3>Description</h3>American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level 4 trauma Emergency Department position requiring 2+ years of ED experience and WV or compact RN licensure.<h3>Details</h3><ul><li>Acute care Level 4 trauma center ED with STEMI receiving capability and telestroke partnership with WVU</li><li>15-bed main ED plus 6-bed Fast Track zone and two triage rooms</li><li>Travelers may be assigned to triage and will triage patients at the bedside</li><li>ED holds are intermixed with regular ED patients</li><li>One dedicated psych/seclusion room used as a regular room when not occupied by a psych patient</li><li>Security staffed 24/7 with a guard typically stationed at the ED entrance</li><li>Average of 95 patients treated per day</li><li>Nurse to patient ratio typically 1:4, occasionally 1:5 with hall bed use</li><li>Common diagnoses include chest pain, abdominal pain, shortness of breath, falls, stroke-like symptoms, altered mental status, and back pain, with a significant elderly population</li><li>Must be comfortable titrating critical drips including norepinephrine, propofol, diltiazem, heparin, epinephrine, midazolam, fentanyl, amiodarone, and phenylephrine</li><li>RNs are responsible for reading their own telemetry strips on Nihon Kohden monitors</li><li>RNs draw all labs except type and cross/screen, which is completed by phlebotomy</li><li>X-ray and CT located just outside the ED with non-dedicated transport support</li><li>RT staffed 24/7 but shared across units; RNs administer high-flow oxygen while RT manages vents and BiPAP</li><li>12-hour night shifts with weekends as scheduled, every other weekend required</li><li>Uses a modified self-schedule system with schedules built 4 weeks in advance</li><li>Night shift often follows a block schedule of 3-6 consecutive shifts</li><li>May be required to participate in holiday rotation per A/B rotation schedule</li><li>No standard call or standby requirement</li><li>ED staff do not float to other units</li><li>Uses Cerner EMR</li></ul><h3>Requirements</h3><ul><li>Active WV or compact RN license required</li><li>Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS</li><li>TNCC and NIHSS certifications preferred</li><li>Minimum 2 years of ED experience required</li><li>Prior trauma experience preferred</li><li>Must be comfortable managing and titrating critical care drips</li><li>Cerner EMR experience preferred</li></ul><h3>Additional Information</h3><ul><li>Provide direct emergency nursing care across a range of acute and critical presentations</li><li>Work alongside ED techs (paramedics) who perform EKGs, point-of-care urine testing, patient transport, and room stocking</li><li>Charge nurse on each shift may also take patient assignments during high-volume periods</li><li>Receive 1-3 days of unit-specific orientation with a preceptor</li><li>Navy blue scrub color required</li><li>Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible as a traveler</li><li>Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must complete a 2-year break before reapplying</li><li>Travelers are limited to a cumulative total of one year working within WVU facilities before requiring a 2-year break</li><li>All candidates interview directly with the unit manager</li><li>First-time travelers are welcome to apply</li></ul>
