Registered Nurse (RN) - Psychiatric Emergency Room

Job Duties

The Registered Nurse in the Psychiatric Emergency Room will be responsible for the following:

• Conducting intake assessments through interviews with patients and their families to gather comprehensive case histories.
• Planning and providing nursing care tailored to the individual needs of patients.
• Making nursing diagnoses regarding the medical and emotional status of patients and recommending appropriate treatment options.
• Consulting with psychiatrists and other behavioral health professionals to design optimal treatment plans for clients.
• Administering psychotropic drugs and other medications, while carefully observing and documenting patients' reactions.
• Arranging further medical attention as necessary.
• Assisting clients in understanding their emotional disturbances and the importance of treatment.
• Maintaining a safe and secure environment for both staff and patients.
• Testing vital signs and ensuring effective pain management interventions.
• Documenting all patient information on medical charts and adhering to written orders from physicians.
• Upholding patient confidentiality and maintaining accurate medical records, including treatments, immunizations, and lab results.
• Performing administrative tasks such as filing, answering phones, typing, and completing progress notes in the electronic health record system.
• Providing professional and courteous service to patients and the public by addressing requests for assistance or making appropriate referrals.

Requirements

• Valid New York State Nursing License.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association.
• A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a related field.
