Position: Certified Surgical Technologist
Specialty: Labor & Delivery (L&D)
Location: State College, Pennsylvania
Job Type: Contract
Duration: 13 Weeks
Schedule: 36 Guaranteed Hours per Week
Shift: 12-Hour Days
Hours: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
Weekend Requirement: Every Other Weekend
Holiday Requirement: Rotating Holidays
EMR: Epic
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and Certified Surgical Technologist with Labor & Delivery experience for a 13-week contract assignment. The Surgical Technologist will function as a scrub person and assist in providing safe, efficient patient care during surgical and obstetrical procedures. This role requires strong knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and the ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team in a fast-paced environment.
Required Qualifications
Current Surgical Technologist Certification (Required)
Minimum 2 years of Surgical Technologist experience
Recent Labor & Delivery experience required
Active state license/certification as required
Current BLS (AHA or equivalent)
Experience working with Epic EMR preferred
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and maintain sterile fields for surgical procedures.
Perform surgical scrubbing, gowning, and gloving according to established protocols.
Assist with patient skin preparation and surgical draping.
Set up and organize instruments, supplies, and equipment for procedures.
Perform sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to policy.
Anticipate surgeon needs and provide instruments and supplies efficiently.
Handle, clean, and prepare surgical instruments and equipment for sterilization.
Assist with inventory management and surgical preference card updates.
Adhere to infection prevention, safety, and standard precaution guidelines.
Respond appropriately to emergency situations while maintaining patient safety.
Preferred Skills
Strong knowledge of obstetrical and surgical procedures.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively in high-pressure and emergency situations.
Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Knowledge of sterile processing and surgical instrumentation.
Additional Information
Holiday coverage required.
On-call responsibilities may be required.
Candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced Labor & Delivery environment.
