Location: State College, PA
Contract Duration: 13 Weeks (Tentative: Immediate Start)
Shift Matrix: Days | 06:45 – 19:15 (3x12-Hour Shifts)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 Hours Per Week

🚫 Absolute Minimum Qualifications for Review:
- Certification Mandate: Must hold an active Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential. Uncertified applicants will be automatically bypassed.
- Experience Baseline: Minimum 2+ years of dedicated Labor & Delivery / OB surgical scrub experience inside an active hospital setting.
- Schedule Grid: Required to work an every other weekend rotation and a rotating holiday coverage schedule.
- Software Requirement: Hands-on proficiency charting and tracking within an Epic EMR network is required.
- Core Certification: Active AHA BLS must be verified at submission.
Job Summary
A regional health system in State College, PA is seeking a highly skilled, autonomous Labor & Delivery Surgical Technologist for a 13-week day-shift contract. Reporting to the Manager of Women & Children’s Services, the technologist will function under the direct supervision of the Nursing Supervisor and Circulating RN. This specialized role demands complete adherence to AWHONN Practice Standards while managing sterile fields for both elective and emergent obstetric surgical interventions.
Key Responsibilities
- Obstetric Surgical Scrubbing: Independently set up sterile fields, perform surgical scrubbing, gowning, and gloving, and anticipate surgeon movements during Cesarean sections, bilateral tubal ligations, and emergent cerclages.
- Medication Double-Verification: Collaboratively identify all localized medications, hemostatic agents, and sterile irrigation solutions by name, dosage, and expiration date with a Registered Nurse prior to introduction to the field. Explicitly restate name and dosage when passing agents to the surgeon.
- Rigorous Count Synchronization: Partner with the Circulating RN to perform standardized sharps, sponge, and instrument counts across all designated closure stages to prevent retained foreign objects.
- Aseptic & Sterilization Oversight: Apply advanced principles of asepsis during patient skin preparation and draping. Clean, check, operate, and document accurate logs for specialized sterilization apparatus and autoclave equipment native to the surgical suite.
- Emergency Stabilization Readiness: Maintain immediate readiness to respond calmly and efficiently during sudden obstetric crises, such as crash C-sections for fetal bradycardia or placental abruptions.
- Preference List Mastery: Continually update and refine surgeon preference lists to reduce setup lag and minimize patient operative and anesthetic exposure times.
