Opportunity:

RN - Med Surg

Job Details:

• Work in a major trauma unit caring for adult and geriatric patients
• Patient ratio of 6:1 for days, nights, and weekends
• 12-hour orientation required
• Float requirement to all other inpatient units (agency staff pulled first)
• Work every other holiday with weekend coverage required
• No guaranteed specific scheduling requests (block scheduling not available)
• 2 years of experience in Med Surg specialty required
• Travel experience required
• Must live over 65 miles from facility (no local travelers accepted)
• Neurosurgery experience required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Preferred Epic charting system experience
• Must be available for Emergency Team assignments during facility emergencies
• Care for patients with multi-trauma, seizures, GSW, falls, TBI, stroke, sepsis, psychiatric conditions, epidural hematomas and hemorrhage, cerebral edema, orthopedic trauma, and encephalopathy
• Perform special procedures including craniotomy, spinal fusions, ORIF, muscle flaps, skin grafts, amputations, IM nails, external fixators, and spinal stimulators
• Work with specialized equipment including traction, external fixators, PCA pumps, JP drains, wound vacs, chest tubes, orthopedic braces, central lines, trach, PEG, and NG tubes
• Skills include blood product administration, PICC line management, IV starts, pre/post neurosurgery care, TBI management, orthopedic trauma care, surgical drains, chest tubes, and isolation precautions

This healthcare facility operates a comprehensive major trauma unit with 24 beds and maintains a daily census of 24 patients. The facility provides extensive interdisciplinary support including physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, transportation, and unit secretary services.
