Opportunity:

Registered Nurse - PCU

Job Details:

• Work in Surgical PCU with almost ICU level acuity
• Patient ratio of 1:3-4
• 48 hours of orientation provided
• Weekend coverage required - 6 weekends per 13 week contract
• Must work every other weekend per contract
• Expected to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Required certifications: ACLS and BCLS
• Must be comfortable with precepting and/or having students shadow
• Floating required to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) - refusal may result in contract termination
• May be assigned charge nurse responsibilities with training provided
• Call-in policy requires makeup shifts during pay period or added to end of contract
• Must be proficient in cardiac monitoring, chest tube management, fresh trachs, feeding tube care, post-op patient care, epidurals, non-titratable cardiac drips, IV insulin protocols, external BiPAP/CPAP, total laryngectomy, and Doppler flap checks
• Care for ENT, Thoracic, General Surgery, Urology, and medical overflow patients
• Experience with arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, surgical drains, and enteral feedings preferred
• Cerner charting system experience preferred
• First time travelers accepted
• Two pre-approved time off days available

This major academic medical center serves as a teaching facility that provides comprehensive healthcare services with advanced surgical specialties. The facility operates a high-acuity Progressive Care Unit that handles complex post-operative patients from ENT, thoracic, general surgery, and urology services. The hospital maintains a 34-bed PCU with a daily census of 24 patients and offers extensive interdisciplinary support including physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams.
