Opportunity:

RN - Med Surg; Additional Notes from VMS= Neuro Surgical

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour night shifts from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
• 36 guaranteed hours per week
• 13-week contract length
• Three weekends required out of every six-week schedule
• Every other holiday rotation required
• Float within skillset to other campus locations with 2-hour notice (Deaconess Midtown 8 miles away, potential Deaconess Henderson 11 miles away)
• Mid-shift float within same campus possible
• No blocked schedule requests allowed
• Care for neuro and neuro-surgical patients including CVAs, elective back/neck surgeries, post-op craniotomies, and cerebral angiograms
• Patient ratio: 1:5-7 on nights with charge nurse taking partial patient assignment
• Required skills: NIHSS/dysphagia screening, strong neuro assessments, basic telemetry interpretation, strict I&Os, catheter management, heparin drip initiation/titration, blood product administration, venipuncture, NG tube management, indwelling drain management
• Must pass Basic Dysrhythmia Exam
• Two years of strong neuro experience required, plus 1 travel assignment and trauma level II experience
• Recent EPIC charting experience required with checkoff class
• Current active compact nursing license required
• Required certifications: AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS
• Navy blue scrubs required with no competing health system or agency logos
• May require precepting of students and new hires in teaching hospital environment
• Associate degree or certificate required
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills essential
• 3 call-ins can result in termination

This facility operates as a teaching hospital with a 37-bed neuro/neuro-surgical unit that provides comprehensive care for patients with neurological conditions and surgical needs. The unit maintains excellent leadership with a manager who has been with the organization since 2012, fostering a strong, well-developed team of staff nurses who welcome traveling professionals. The facility emphasizes high-quality patient care and maintains trauma level II designation, providing advanced neurological and surgical services to the community.
