RN - Med Surg

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour day shifts from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM
• 36 guaranteed hours per week (48-hour contracts available upon request with overtime after 52 hours)
• Every third weekend and every other holiday required
• Float requirement: First to float within skillset to Deaconess Newburgh campus (8 miles) and potentially Deaconess Midtown (11 miles) with 2-hour notice
• Mid-shift float within same campus; cross-campus mid-shift float unlikely but possible
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Patient ratio: Days 1:4-5 patients
• 45-bed unit serving general medical/surgical patients including gallbladder, colectomy, appendectomy, hip/knee replacements, orthopedic procedures, COVID, GI bleeds, CHF, COPD, sepsis, UTI, and respiratory conditions
• Must wear navy blue scrubs with no competing health system or agency logos
• Required skills: PIV insertion, chest tube/indwelling drain management, CBI, drip management (heparin, cardizem), PEGs/NGs, ostomy care, remote telemetry, blood product administration, NIHSS/dysphagia screening
• Must have strong assessment and critical thinking skills
• Two years of strong Med/Surg experience and one travel assignment required
• Recent EPIC experience required with mandatory checkoff class
• Required certifications: Current active compact license, AHA BLS, and NIHSS
• Associate degree or certificate required
• May require precepting of students and new hires in teaching hospital environment
• Three call-ins can result in termination
