Overview

• Location: Hastings, Nebraska

• Patient ratio: 1:4–6

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Nebraska
• Med Surg (2 years of experience)
• Med Surg experience within the last year
• BLS
• NIHSS
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Experience / Skills

• Experience with chest tubes is preferred
• Experience with pain management, TPN, CBI, and wounds
• Charge nurse experience is a plus but not required

Schedule / Work Expectations

• 12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
• Every other weekend
• Every 3rd holiday, including one winter holiday
• No call or standby requirement
• May be asked to float to PCU for MedSurg overflow or low-acuity PCU patients

Unit Details

• Common patient types include dementia, post-surgical, falls, influenza, pneumonia, failure to thrive, cancer, and COVID
• Telemetry is present on the floor, with monitor techs reading
• Respiratory therapy manages CPAP
• Nurse aides are available, generally 2–3
• Charge nurse takes patients and may serve as charge if experienced

Orientation

• 2 days of nursing department orientation
• 1 day on the floor

Dress Code

• Any solid-color scrubs; no patterns or designs
