Location

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Schedule

• 12-hour day shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend
• Rotates every other holiday
• Travelers do not self-schedule
• Block scheduling may be considered if approved at the time of contract

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS certification (AHA)
• Must provide the last four digits of SSN
• Must provide middle initial
• Must provide requested time off
• Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels

Unit Details

• Surgical acute unit
• 63 beds
• Typical patient mix includes post-op surgical, trauma, overflow medical, dressing changes, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 4–5 on days and 5–6 on nights, with possible increases to 6 on days and 7 on nights if needed

Responsibilities and Workflow

• No routine drip titration required
• Heparin is the only common titratable/set-rate drip
• Some patients are on telemetry; bedside nurses do not read strips
• RN manages inhalers and may place patients on CPAP
• No vents on the unit
• Travelers float first and may float to units with the same level of experience

Support Staff

• Charge nurses are present on each shift and do not take an assignment
• House supervisor is available 24/7
• Patient care techs are available and assist with vitals, accu checks, ADLs, turning, and ambulation

Orientation

• 2 shifts with a preceptor
• 1 additional 12-hour shift for EPIC and professional orientation with the unit educator

Dress Code

• Any color scrubs

• Local placements within 50 miles are accepted
• Local clinicians are subject to a reduced rate
• No call or standby requirement
• Guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation
