Med Surg RN

Overview

• Role: RN (Registered Nurse)
• Specialty/Unit: Med Surg | RN
• Location: Peru, Illinois
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts
• Hours per week: 36

Required Qualifications

• Active IL license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels

Preferred

• PALS
• At least 2 years of experience
• Previous travel experience

Unit Details

• Department beds: 2 South has 18 beds; 3 South has 22 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: Days 1:5; Nights 1:5-6
• Common patient types include medical acute cases such as pneumonia, heart failure, sepsis, COPD, urologic, surgical, total joints, general surgery, and occasional pediatric respiratory illness
• RN monitors tele strips and the unit has virtual central telemetry monitoring
• Charge nurse takes 1-2 patients
• PCT ratios: Days 1:8-10; Eves 1:9-10; Nights 1:10-12
• RT equipment includes Bi-pap for stable, alert home-regimen patients and high-flow

Scheduling

• Every other weekend
• Holiday rotation required
• Low census may be given in 4-hour increments and re-evaluated every 4 hours

Floating

• May float to ICU for general acute overflow patients
• May float to Ottawa Campus to staff greatest need, with at least 2 hours’ notice before the shift

Orientation

• Usually 3 shifts
• Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours
