SURG FIRST ASSIST (RN)

Overview

• Operating room and perioperative nursing role focused on assisting the physician during surgical procedures and supporting care from pre-op through recovery.
• 26-week contract
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 0600–1430
• Call: every other day and every other weekend

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Kentucky
• First Assist (1 year of experience)
• First Assist experience within the last year
• BLS
• ACLS
• CNOR or RNFA
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• CVOR experience

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ previous nursing experience as First Assist

Key Responsibilities

• Assist surgical team members in preparing for cases and cleaning the room after procedures
• Set up surgical cases with appropriate equipment and supplies
• Perform needle and instrument counts according to policy
• Restock Operating Room supplies as needed
• Help optimize room turnaround time
• Follow Surgical Services policies and AORN standards of care
• Use aseptic techniques
• Demonstrate knowledge of surgical pharmacology and anesthesia agent adjuncts
• Perform treatments and administer medications per policies and procedures
